Se me ocurrió escribir esta Newsletter a partir de un vídeo de este humorista español:
I came up with the idea to write this newsletter based on a video by a Spanish comedian:
En el vídeo, dice la misma palabra, “¿qué?”, muchas veces. Solo cambia la entonación🤯. Y cambiando la entonación puede cambiar también el significado 💥.
In the video, the same word, "what?", is said many times. Only the intonation changes. By changing the intonation, the meaning can also change.
2 situaciones para usar '¿Qué?' ❗️
Se me ocurren dos situaciones sencillas en las que tú puedes usar “¿qué?”:
I can think of two simple situations where you can use ¿qué?:
1. Cuando te llaman, cuando dicen tu nombre:
When someone calls us, says our name:
- ¡Irene!
-¿Qué? ¡Dime! ¿Qué quieres? ¿Por qué me llamas?
¿Te gusta Take it Spanish? Puedes demostrármelo invitándome a un café ☕️☕️. Siempre me tomo uno mientras escribo estas newsletters. ¡Gracias!
2. Cuando no entiendes 🤷🏼♀️:
When we don’t understand something.
- La omnipresencia de enseres domésticos anacrónicos en la morada moderna contrasta con la tendencia hacia la minimalización.
- ¿Qué? No entiendo…
- Que tener cosas viejas en casa NO es minimalismo.
No entender lo que nos dicen en un idioma extranjero es normal. Seguro que muchos habéis vivido la situación en la que os repiten algo tres veces y seguís sin entenderlo.
Not understanding what people say to us in a foreign language is normal. Surely many of you have experienced the situation where something is repeated to you three times, and you still don't understand it.
3 formas de decir '¿Qué? ¡No entiendo!'.
1. ¿Puedes repetirlo? Necesito oírlo varias veces para aprender.
Could you repeat that? I need to hear it several times to learn.
Puedes usarlo si estás con un hispanohablante al que le gusta traducir al inglés rápidamente, sin dejar oportunidad de aprender.
You can use it if you are with a Spanish speaker who likes to translate into English quickly, without giving you the opportunity to learn.
2. ¿Perdón? No lo entiendo… ¿puedes poner un ejemplo?
Pardon? I don’t get it. Could you give me an example?
3. No entiendo, ¿podrías decirlo con otras palabras?
I don't understand, could you say it in other words?
Tú turno
Como has visto en el vídeo, hay muchas formas de usar ¿qué? y no deberías preocuparte por entender todas.
Me gustaría que me contases si en tu idioma hay una palabra similar, que puede tener distintos significados según el tono y la actitud.
As you've seen in the video, there are many ways to use '¿qué?' and you shouldn't worry about understanding them all.
I would like you to tell me if in your language there is a similar word, which can have different meanings depending on the tone and attitude.
Como siempre, gracias por leerme. Si te gusta lo que hago, puedes hacérmelo saber invitándome a un café ☕️.
No recuerdo donde pero escuché que en algunos lugares responder con "qué?" cuando te llaman pude ser percibido maleducado. Recomendaron decir algo "dime" o "mande" (me acuerdo que lo último es de Latinoamérica)
