¡El domingo termina noviembre! Como sabéis vivo en EEUU y ayer se celebró Thanksgiving. La decoración típica para esta fiesta es la que veis en la foto: hojas amarillas y naranjas y calabazas de todos los tamaños.

November ends on Sunday! As you know, I live in the U.S., and yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving. The typical decorations for this holiday are what you see in the photo: yellow and orange leaves and pumpkins of all sizes.

Los americanos pronto empezarán con la decoración de navidad, que es mi momento favorito del año🎄🧑🏼‍🎄🎁. Pero antes de empezar el mes de diciembre, quiero repasar todo lo que hemos aprendido en noviembre.

Bendita siesta - Blessed siesta

En la segunda newsletter de noviembre vimos que una siestecita puede aclarar las ideas y que cuando estes cansado durante el día puedes decir “voy a echarme una siesta”.

In the second newsletter of November, we saw that - a little nap can clear your mind - when you're tired during the day, you can say 'I'm going to take a nap.'

También aprendimos que en España tenemos una hora que no corresponde con la zona geográfica en la que estamos.

We also learned that in Spain we have an hour that doesn’t correspond with the geographical zone we are in.

Ojalá estuviera el ejercito en Valencia. - I wish the army were in Valencia

Hace justo un mes, el 29 de octubre, el sur de la ciudad de Valencia y varios pueblos fueron inundados. Al día siguiente, solo los bomberos y los propios vecinos estaban limpiando las calles. Mucha gente dijo la frase “Ojalá estuviera el ejercito aquí”.

Exactly one month ago, on October 29th, the southern part of the city of Valencia and several towns were flooded. The next day, only the firefighters and the locals were cleaning the streets. Many people said the phrase 'I wish the army were here.'

El ejercito llegó tres días más tarde. ¿Por qué? Por la incompetencia de los políticos. Mucha gente en Valencia ha perdido sus casas, coches y negocios. En estos momentos tan duros, mucha gente se lamenta y usa la expresión “ojalá”, que va seguida de subjuntivo:

The army arrived three days later. Why? Because of the incompetence of the politicians. Many people in Valencia have lost their homes, cars, and businesses. In these difficult times, many people are lamenting and using the expression 'I wish,' which is followed by the subjunctive:

• Ojalá el gobierno hubiera avisado de las lluvias.

  I wish the government had warned about the rain.

• Ojalá tuviera botas para el barro.

  I wish I had boots for the mud.

• Ojalá pudiera ayudar más.

  I wish I could help more.
