🎭 Asistir (to attend) ≠ Assist (ayudar)
Voy a asistir a una conferencia sobre historia del arte.
I'm going to attend a conference on art history.
🤰 Embarazada (pregnant) ≠ Embarrassed (avergonzado/a)
Lucía anunció que está embarazada y todos la felicitaron.
Lucia announced that she is pregnant, and everyone congratulated her.
📅 Actual (current) ≠ Actually (en realidad)
Mi dirección actual es en Madrid, pero antes vivía en Sevilla.

🥖 Ser pan comido - To be a piece of cake
(Literalmente: To be eaten bread)

El Ministerio de Educación de Estados Unidos tiene un acuerdo con el español para atraer profesores españoles que enseñen en colegios bilingües americanos. Como van a principalmente en español, no sé, exige un nivel de inglés muy alto y aunque sueles ser gente muy preparada, algunos le cuesta mucho hablar inglés.
The U.S. Department of Education has an agreement with Spain to attract Spanish teachers to work in bilingual schools in the United States. Since they mainly teach in Spanish, the program doesn't require a very high level of English. Although most participants are highly qualified, some struggle with speaking English.
Una amiga me contaba que en su colegio aquí en California un compañero español que no sabía mucho inglés, les dió a los alumnos esta orden: put your papers on the carpet. los alumnos pusieron sus hojas en el suelo y él se desesperó y empezó a repetir con más insistencia la frase. Lo que quería decir era que guardaran las actividades en una carpeta.
A friend told me that at her school here in California, a Spanish colleague who didn’t speak much English gave the students the instruction: 'Put your papers on the carpet.' The students placed their worksheets on the floor, and he got frustrated and kept repeating the phrase more insistently. What he actually meant was for them to put the papers in a folder.
