El latín que hablaban los romanos evolucionó en varios idiomas: francés, español… Muchas palabras cambiaron, pero todavía hoy decimos algunas en latín.

• Status quo - Usado en debates sociales, políticos o económicas para describir las circunstancias existentes que se mantienen.

• Ad hoc - describe algo que se ha hecho específicamente para una situación o propósito particular.

• Ipso facto - Se utiliza cuando una determinada consecuencia sigue automáticamente a algo.

  Is is used when a certain consequence automatically follows from a given circumstance or action.

  I forgot to return the book on time, so ipso facto I had to pay a fine.

  Sí, de “oler” sale “huele”. Es un verbo muy difícil. En español se escribe siempre h delante de /ua/, /ue/, /ui/. Otros ejemplos: huevo (egg), huelga (strike) y huerta (vegetable garden).

Los romanos vivieron en la Península Ibérica durante siete siglos. La llamaron Hispania.

The Romans lived on the Iberian Peninsula for seven centuries. They called it Hispania.

Hicieron numerosas construcciones y muchas todavía se mantienen. Para mí, la más espectacular es el acueducto de Segovia.

They built numerous constructions and many are still standing. For me, the most spectacular is the aqueduct of Segovia.
